EL-WIFI-TC data loggers help reduce heating costs by up to £800 a month

Operating for more than 30 years, The Dolby Hotel in Liverpool is a privately owned, independent hotel overlooking the city’s waterfront. Known for its welcoming atmosphere and reliable service, the hotel has long focused on balancing guest comfort with sustainable energy management.

When General Manager Gavin Shelton began exploring ways to improve the efficiency of the hotel’s hot water system, he discovered Lascar Electronics through a Google search and soon found a solution.

Finding Smarter Heating Solutions

Like many hospitality businesses, The Dolby Hotel faces ongoing pressure to reduce energy consumption and control costs. Maintaining a consistent supply of hot water across guest rooms, kitchens and facilities means heating systems are running more often than needed, particularly during periods of low demand.

To understand where energy could be saved, a simple and accurate way to track temperature data from both water tanks was found, helping to provide clear visibility of heating cycles 24/7.

The Solution

After researching online, The Dolby Hotel installed two EL-WIFI-TC WiFi Data Loggers with Thermocouple Inputs to monitor and record temperature changes in real time.

“From opening the box to being up and running on both tanks took less than an hour,” said Gavin. “It was incredibly easy to install.”

Connected to the EasyLog Cloud, the loggers are able to continuously upload temperature data, allowing staff to monitor readings remotely and analyse system performance. The ability to view live data from any location helped to make it easy to identify when heating elements were active unnecessarily.

The Results

Using insights from the EL-WIFI-TC data loggers, the hotel was able to optimise its heating schedule by moving most activity to off-peak hours when electricity rates are lower.

“We’ve reduced the length of time the heating elements are active by identifying periods of lower demand”, Gavin explained. “Most of our heating now runs during off-peak hours. Since implementing the loggers, we’ve achieved monthly savings of between £300 and £800.”
